For more than 25 years, Tommy Hilfiger has brought classic, cool, American apparel to the fashion world. He introduced his first signature collection in 1985. The relaxed, youthful attitude of his first designs has remained a distinctive hallmark throughout all of Hilfiger’s subsequent collections.
This year, the designer has collaborated with Zooey Deschanel, who has been nominated to the Emmy, the Golden Globe and the Grammy and is a winner of the Critics’ Choice Award.
“To Tommy from Zooey” is a collection designed for women who embrace the classic, preppy American look but achieve to update their style with modern patterns and pop-up colors. The heritage palette of the brand (red, white and navy blue) is strongly represented throughout the collection, as well as the American-cool style with a preppy unexpected twist.
“It’s a mix of mod and nautical, which I like to call “modical,” Zooey said. “There are a lot of great little hidden details, structured and short pieces, and very clean lines. Each piece is very mod and also very American-inspired.”
The key elements seen on the collection are details like double and single pleats, Peter Pan collars, polka dots, color-blocking and unexpected patterns some of which are hidden in the inside of the pleats. The result is an eclectic, vintage-inspired blend of Zooey’s personal style and the brand’s DNA.
“I’m inspired by the way Zooey has embraced the early 1960s and incorporated it into her own look,” said Tommy. “It was such a fantastic time for American fashion. Each piece in this collection embodies Zooey’s confidence and playful sophistication, fused with the youthful and optimistic spirit of the brand.”
This past April 1, Director of Business Intelligence at BRAYA, Victoria Alexander, showed us the different ways this amazing collection can be styled. The shooting took place at the famous restaurant Casa Virginia, a delightful space in Mexico City located in La Colonia Roma. Chef Monica Patiño and daughter Micaela Miguel created it.
