Regardless of what we decide to study in college, it is never too late to steer the wheel the other way in order to find our true passion in life. Robert Hirsh, Silver Deer Founder, is the perfect example of this. He worked for many years in the finance industry, until he decided to do what he loves: fashion and being and entrepreneur.
“I have had the luck of founding and being involved in many startups, Silver Deer in 2012, a mining company called Sierra Metals in Chihuahua and Peru in 2005, an email company called MPACT Immedia based in Montreal in 2001, a paper and home supply distribution business called Student Supplies in Montreal in 1999; all challenging in different ways, in addition to a successful career as a banker for 15 years”, he told TFA. While he was living in Mexico City circa the year 2000, he came up with the idea of Silver Deer, since he saw a lack of cool fashion destinations in the city.
Up until now, Silver Deer is the only retailer that introduces new and edgy brands in Mexico and strive to offer a different point of view in terms of product and luxury to the Mexican man.
On a personal note, his hobbies include jogging, snow skiing, shopping (of course), traveling, reading, and he recently started cooking. His favorite icon is Justin Trudeau, the PM of Canada, “I really admire his point of views and how inclusive he is”, he added.
When asked about his favorite art fair he blissfully recommended Zona Maco. It is definitely a must-go in Mexico City! Speaking of Mexico… we couldn’t help but ask him how he thinks this country is contributing to the fashion scene worldwide. He says there is new talent in this area coming from everywhere! Hecho, Felina, Unmarked are a few successful Mexican examples.
