Nelly Navarrete is the founder and director of Cañamiel, a concept store specialized in Mexican and Latin American designs. Because of her hard work supporting upcoming Latin designers and her effortlessly eclectic style, Nelly has become a major player within the fashion industry. She has collaborated with various fashion blogs such as The Selby and is a frequent guest at Fashion Week.
Nelly is a contemporary art collector. Her greatest achievements are her home and her family. “My kids help me be a better person every day,” she says. “They are constantly teaching me something new.”
The oldest piece inside her closet is a Christian Dior pin she found at a flea market in Argentina. Her favorite fashion period is the early 90s, she listens to Nirvana, and blond is her hair color of the month. She loves the grunge- grunge look, and knows how to pull off a punk but sophisticated attitude. However, her classy, elegant gamine’s style is what makes her so stylish.
One of Nelly’s goals is to help brand Mexico and Latin America as key fashion capitals. She believes that Latin American designers have enormous potential and exquisite talent. “Mexico is in everyone’s radar,” she said. “There’s a huge wave of fresh talent and the private sector is increasingly supporting the arts – mainly film, theater and fashion.”
For Nelly, fashion is the perfect channel to express who we are. “What I love about my job is presenting unique designs to my customers and helping them create or emphasize their own style,” she said. Having one of the most enviable wardrobes, Nelly’s new thing is collecting classic pieces from her favorite designers. She’s currently got her eye on a gown from Alexander Wang’s first collection for Balenciaga.
The Fancy Archive congratulates Nelly Navarrete for her excellent work at Cañamiel as one of the top concept stores in Latin America. The way she encourages Hispanic talent is something we are happy to support.
