Andrea Maria, the editor behind the fashion blog “Dear Milano” has a marketing degree by the University of Tecnológico de Monterrey. Because fashion was always her main goal, in 2009 she moved to Milan, Italy where she studied fashion design. She hasn’t stopped blogging about her lifestyle within the fashion industry ever since. She interned with Mexican fashion designer Rolando Santana and is currently working in New York City with fashion designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and the well-known fashion photographer Kenneth Willardt.
Maria has been featured in several fashion editorials such as Elle Mexico Magazine, Moda Reforma, HOLA!, InStyle Mexico, among others. Her unique street-style looks have made her a constant reference for many fashion blogs. But that’s not all. Last year, “Dear Milano” won the “Top New Fashion Blog” at the Privalia Blog Awards.
“I used to hang out in Via Montenapoleone all the time visiting showrooms, doing trend spotting, touching every single fabric,” she said. “I must confess that’s where I got all the inspiration to start the blog.”
For Maria, fashion is art. It’s a pure and clear expression of ourselves. When picking her outfits for this season, mid-skirts, culottes and white shirtdresses inspired her. Maria admires every independent woman who persuades her dreams. But it’s her mom who’s at the top of her list. “She is the strongest and wisest woman I’ve ever met,” she said. “She taught me how to dream. She’s the reason why I’m turning my dreams into a reality.”
Her everyday habit is of course Instagramming. She’s read “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle several times. The oldest piece inside her closet is an astonishing fur coat. Her favorite piece are her black Celine Audrey sunglasses from Celine and she has her eyes on an Acne leather jacket and the Miu Miu glittered sunglasses. If you want to bump into her in New York City, “The Todd English Food Hall” at the Plaza is her favorite brunch. Maria loves blogging for the sole reason of being able to share with her followers a bit of the power and excitement of the fashion world. “Fashion blogs have become the newest way to review trends,” she said. “Bloggers share information that most of the times magazines don’t communicate. People want affordable, trendy, and easy to wear pieces. The masterpiece of almost every fashion blogger is to translate the trends from the runway into the streets.”
Some of her favorite moments in the fashion industry include being backstage during Milan Fashion Week. But she thinks moving to New York was definitely a life-changing decision. “In this industry, you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow,” she said. “You move from one project to another so fast that sometimes you need to stop and realize how lucky you are to be here.”
Maria´s lifestyle and experience have made her a fashion leader within her niche and have garnered her many followers. The Fancy Archive wants to congratulate “Dear Milano” for her amazing tips and incredible looks. We look forward to many more.
