British slang, the Edwardian style, Mary Quant, The Beatles, 1960s. Yes, I’m talking about the Mod look. Alice Gamus, Nylon Mexico’s editor in chief, has an authentic style that’s a combination of the Mod look, a touch of the 90’s and a rock and roll attitude.
From collaborating as a fashion stylist for Harper’s BAZAAR, 192 magazine, and Elle Mexico/Latin America, Alice made the right choice when she decided fashion, her passion, was the way to go.
She admits drawing has never been her strongest skill but she challenged herself and graduated with a degree in fashion design by Centro University. She has worked as a stylist for important fashion campaigns such as La Chica E! Mexico and Mexico’s Next Top Model.
According to Alice, the fashion industry can be frivolous at times, but taking the readers to a wonderland through storytelling and the creation of new characters is the real reason why she’s in love with fashion. “Fashion is a way to tell the world – this is who I am and this is what I want to say,” she said. She believes that a person’s style and the art of creating different looks is their strongest ally when it comes to first impressions. For Alice, our personality defines our style. And that is more important than any brand, shoe or bag.
Music plays a key element in her life. Mick Jagger, Alison Mosshart and Alex Turner are among the rock and roll inspirations that can be seen in her work, especially on her own masterpiece – her style. Alice’s closet is full of leather biker jackets, preppy flower dresses and a lot of black, making her style a combination of rocker meets girly. There are also tons of trendy tights, which are almost always part of her look. When it comes to defining her look “dramatic couture” is what pops up in our mind. For her, Alexa Chung is in many ways her favorite fashion icon of our time.
Many pieces in Alice’s wardrobe have a story behind them. Maybe that’s the reason for her strong presence and glamorous vibe. Her most valuable and sentimental piece is a diamond earpiece, which was given to her the day she was born. She has never taken it off.
For this and what we’re sure will be an inspiring career, The Fancy Archive celebrates Alice Gamus’ capability to inspire us with her unique and rich work as a fashion stylist.
